NASA Grant Helps Museum of Science Launch Engineering MISSION
A NASA award to the Museum of Science will support its space-focused Engineering MISSION project. With Goddard Space Flight Center and the Massachusetts Space Grant Consortium, the Museum will develop resources strengthening engineering education in out-of-school-time environments for students in middle grades. Resources span a planetarium show on NASA's robotic missions, space-themed digital visual media, aeronautical and aerospace engineering activities, and educator workshops.

NISE Network Visits Capitol Hill
In May, the Nanoscale Informal Science Education Network™ was highlighted in the Annual Coalition for National Science Funding exhibition. The Museum of Science, Boston is a lead partner in this National Science Foundation (NSF)-funded $41 million network. NCTL Plays Major Role at Delaware's First Statewide STEM Summit
In July, the Museum of Science's NCTL played a major role at the first Delaware STEM Institute, hosted by the Delaware Department of Education with the Delaware Science Coalition. A signature product featured was the NCTL's Engineering is Elementary® (EiE®) units. Delaware is the first state to introduce EiE into all its elementary schools.

Raytheon Gift Launches Arizona's First Engineering is Elementary Teacher Training Hub
Launched by Raytheon and the Museum of Science, the Engineering is Elementary® (EiE®) hub site at Arizona Science Center (ASC) plans five professional development (PD) workshops for elementary teachers, which are funded by Raytheon and Intel. ASC is one of EiE's first formal teacher training sites beyond Mass., joining a growing list of institutions nationwide offering EiE PD.

Gateway Sets Sail
In June, sixth-graders from a Museum of Science Gateway Project school district designed, built, and launched three sailboats on a lake in Dennis, Mass. The final exam involved boarding and sailing the boats. The Gateway Project helps school districts like Dennis-Yarmouth develop action plans to implement engaging STEM programs.

Promising Research Involves Engineering is Elementary
Engaging elementary students in problems in science and engineering, higher-order thinking, and 21st century skills results in increased student learning in science and increased interest in science and engineering careers, based on research by New Jersey's Stevens Institute of Technology. The project's novel approach integrated the use of exemplary elementary engineering curricula including Engineering is Elementary units and problem-based activities.
