Dear STEM Supporters,

The Museum of Science is embarking upon Project ENGINEER, a first-of-a-kind initiative, with 25 science museums, schools, universities, and other institutions. Funded by the European Commission, the goal is to introduce engineering in elementary schools and museums in nine European countries and Israel, based on the successful Engineering is Elementary® (EIE®) model.

EngVideo New Videos Bring Engineering to Life
In time for National Engineers Week February 19 - 25

The Museum of Science's National Center for Technological Literacy® (NCTL®) teamed up with Northeastern University, Boston Public Schools, and award-winning filmmakers to produce two new videos designed to help spark STEM engagement in high school classrooms nationwide via participation in hands-on, minds-on engineering design challenges.

USA Science & Engineering Festival Expands for 2012

On April 28-29, Engineering is Elementary® curriculum developers from the Museum of Science's NCTL will invite visitors to the USA Science & Engineering Festival in Washington, D.C., to design submersibles as a way to explore ocean engineering and the science of sinking and floating. Also look for the iSTEM research summit and Triangle Coalition Legislative Conference.

Senate ESEA Highlights STEM and Science Museums

The U.S. Senate HELP Committee's approval of its version of the reauthorization of the Elementary and Secondary Education Act, currently called No Child Left Behind, is more supportive of STEM and includes science museums and universities in partnership with high-need local education agencies as eligible subgrantees for funding.

Foundation S.D. Bechtel Jr. Foundation Supports Out-of-School Engineering Adventures

With over $740,000 from the S.D. Bechtel Jr. Foundation, the NCTL's Engineering is Elementary® program is expanding into out-of-school-time settings via a new curriculum, Engineering Adventures. Children and educators across the country have responded positively to the first unit.

NCTL's Gateway Project Inspires "STEM Academy" for Eighth-Graders

Inspired by the Gateway to Technology and Engineering Project (part of the Museum of Science's National Center for Technological Literacy), Cape Cod high school teachers and 8th graders are involved in an unusual "STEM Academy" which arose from an action plan educators created with Gateway tools.

Building Math Now Aligned with Common Core State and TEKS Standards

The NCTL's Building Math middle school curriculum is now aligned with Common Core Standards for Mathematics and the Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS) Standards. The 3-book series offers practices for students to develop algebraic thinking and data analysis skills by integrating engineering with math to solve challenges.
